New Ideas for Leap Day

According to Wikipedia:
February 29, known as a leap day in the Gregorian calendar, is a date that occurs in most years that are evenly divisible by 4, such as 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016. Years that are evenly divisible by 100 do not contain a leap day, with the exception of years that are evenly divisible by 400, which do contain a leap day; thus 1900 did not contain a leap day while 2000 did. Years containing a leap day are called leap years. February 29 is the 60th day of the Gregorian calendar in such a year, with 306 days remaining until the end of that year.

Blah, blah, blah.

Babyccino? No No NO

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that such a thing exists…and that it has a super-annoying cutesy term to go along with it.

It turns out that there are a whole bunch of cool coffee shops in Brooklyn at which the most-hipster-y of hipster parents can order a mini-decaf cappuccino or steamed milk for their little ones…so many, in fact, that the term ‘babyccino‘ was coined and can be used to order such off-the-menu craziness.

Let’s set aside the issue of giving your child actual coffee, which aside from an occasional taste of the milk foam from atop an adult’s drink is a pretty terrible idea. I actually love steamed milk. I love it even more with cinnamon or honey, and I’m sure that my kids would love sipping some in a coffee shop as well, assuming I could get them an ice-cube to go along with it.

Oh Gymboree. Oh Carters. Think before you onesie…

Another season, another offensive t-shirt.

Noteven three months after JC Penney was forced to pull their offensive I’m Too Pretty to Do Homework , Gymboree has thrown their own sexist gear into the mix.

As part of their winter/holiday line, Gymboree trotted out a series of onesies: Cool like Dad, Smartest Little Guy, Smart Like Dad and…wait for it….Pretty Like Mommy.

It does seem that, as a result of a petition by social action group Moms Rising, that Gymboree has taken down both the ‘Smart Like Dad’ and ‘Pretty Like Mommy’ onesies…but on Shopstyle.com, there were none left to pull because they were all SOLD OUT.

Not to worry, if you’d like to stereotype baby girl, you can still turn to Carters, where you can still get a ‘Pretty Like Mommy’ t-shirt.

Time to Fall Back…Don’t Forget to Change ALL of Your Clocks!

I remember when the idea of getting to go to bed an hour later and ‘getting that hour back was super exciting…back in the pre-children days when I could also sleep as late as I wanted on a Sunday morning.

Now, all I can think is “Ugh, I really hope my kids don’t both wake me up at 4 or 5 am!”  On the bright side, though, they could really do that any other day for no apparent reason…so at least if they do it tomorrow morning, I can blame it on the clocks ;)
